Interesting Winter Precip Mix
30 Degrees, Winds Calm, 29.98 in
A moderate snow event came passed through New England today, with 6.9 inches of snow recorded here. There was a sharp transition of snow and rain / frozen precip today, that stayed to our Southeast for the most part. This made for some interesting Radar Images:

Road to QRQ
35 degrees and cloudy. Extreme cold in the forecast
I'm setting a very early goal for the coming year to increase my CW copy speed, focusing on copy in my head. Like so many ops I've read about, I've hit the "wall" at around 20 wpm....as fast as I can copy on a keyboard. Here's some baseline date from Learn CW Online, a great site.
These are baseline speeds and scores from my "on and off" code practice over the past several years. You can see a slight increase, but I aspire to copy 25 wpm + comfortably without pen and paper. (Note to self #goodluck). 73, Phil

First Measurable Snowfall of 2016-17 Season
The National Weather Service was spot-on in their forecast for this early winter event. I measured 0.2 inches of snow on the snow-board and recorded 0.03 inches of precipitation.
Tonight was the monthly Meeting of the Newington Amateur Radio League. Congratulations to Quentin KB1EWM for completing 3 years of service as President of NARL. And thanks Quentin for continuing to serve as editor of the Newsletter.
Nice CW QSOs on 80 meters tonight with Lester, W8BJO and David, KD9VT.

Bloom Sky has announced shipment of the STORM, the second part of my new BloomSky Weather Station. This will complete my SKYPRO Kit with a complete ensemble of weather instruments. Early impression of this new weather station -- VERY impressed. I'll post a review soon.
QSO with a Celebrity
I recently answered a CQ from KB6NU on 80 meters. As we chatted back and forth with the usual exchanges, I realized this was Dan, CW aficionado and author of the NONONSENSE Amateur Radio Study Guides. Dan has a great and popular ham radio blog. We had a great CW Ragchew. Dan has a great fist for conversational telegraphy. I've enjoyed Dan's commentary on the ICQ Ham Radio Podcast. It was very nice to meet on the air. #Reason to tune the bands and answer CQs! I hope to get my teenager to use his Technician License NONONSENSE Study Guide and re-take his exam. Thanks for the QSL Card Dan -- classic design!
