Interesting Winter Precip Mix

30 Degrees, Winds Calm, 29.98 in

A moderate snow event came passed through New England today, with 6.9 inches of snow recorded here.   There was a sharp transition of snow and rain / frozen precip today, that stayed to our Southeast for the most part.   This made for some interesting Radar Images:

Today I received the Southern New England CoCoRaHS Newsletter, written by Editor-in-Chief Matt Spies (CT-FR-9).  What a Great Read!

There some interesting and humbling information related to our on-going drought.

First Measurable Snowfall of 2016-17 Season

The National Weather Service was spot-on in their forecast for this early winter event.  I measured 0.2 inches of snow on the snow-board and recorded 0.03 inches of precipitation.

Tonight was the monthly Meeting of the Newington Amateur Radio League.  Congratulations  to Quentin  KB1EWM for completing 3 years of service as President of NARL.  And thanks Quentin for continuing to serve as editor of the Newsletter.

Nice CW QSOs on 80 meters tonight with Lester, W8BJO and David, KD9VT.

QRP in Blizzard Conditions

QRP contact for tonight was with Lou, K3OXG in Pennsylvania. This was especially neat as we currently have blizzard conditions with 12" snow, 40 mph winds, 22 degrees outside. I was out shoveling earlier, and was amazed at how the ladder line dipole is dancing up in the trees. I took time to loosed the support ties today in the hope of preventing a break under stress tonight. I bet the ladder feed line is bouncing up and down over 10 feet.

Using 5 watts to the dipole, we were able to complete the contact. There was quite a bit of QSB, so I appreciate Lou's efforts with my code and pulling my signal out of the wind.
